MIT joins mangrove conservation initiative

Planting of mangroves at Motukea Port

On 21 May, Motukea International Terminal (MIT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Total Energies and PNG Ports Corporation to advance mangrove conservation and rehabilitation initiatives.

The MoU signing was witnessed by National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Motu Koita Assembly Manager Mari Kila. The ceremony was followed by the planting of more than 2,000 mangroves at the Motukea Port.

“Mangroves are critical to PNG’s coastal ecosystems and play a key role in combating climate change. ICTSI South Pacific is dedicated to improving our environmental footprint while fostering positive outcomes for our planet and local impacted communities,” said Robert Maxwell.

“Together with Total Energies and PNG Ports Corporation, we will leverage our collective expertise and resources to ensure the health of PNG mangroves for future generations,” he concluded.
