VICT marks record 2024

Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) completed several projects in 2024, further strengthening its position as a key container terminal in Melbourne.

Early in the year, VICT expanded its yard and berth capacity, becoming the only terminal in Melbourne capable of simultaneously servicing two neo-Panamax vessels. This expansion increased the terminal's capacity by 30 percent to 1.25 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), enabling it to accommodate larger vessels and meet growing demand.

On the landside, three new storage blocks and 15 additional truck lanes were added, improving the terminal’s booking system time slot offerings by up to 30 percent per hour starting in January 2024.

The terminal handled more than 1.1 million TEUs last year and surpassed five million TEUs since opening. VICT also set a new record by handling 330 vessels in a single year, reinforcing its market leadership with a 38 percent share in Melbourne.

Bruno Porchietto, VICT chief executive officer, said: "These achievements are a testament to the commitment of our team and the loyalty of our customers. VICT is excited for the opportunities 2025 presents and remains committed to building on its success."
