OPC receives FUNDAHRSE Seal of Socially Responsible Company


 

Operadora Portuaria Centroamericana (OPC) was recently awarded the FUNDAHRSE Seal of Socially Responsible Company for the 2025-2026 period, marking its 10th consecutive year of recognition from the Honduran Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility. The distinction cites the organization’s IndiCARSE evaluation, underscoring OPC’s consistent implementation of responsible practices that benefit local communities.

The award was formally presented on November 5 in San Pedro Sula, where 87 companies were recognized for their contribution to the country’s sustainable and inclusive development. The annual accreditation is granted to organizations that meet the foundation’s requirements through a detailed review and submission of requirements, reaffirming that OPC implements initiatives with measurable value for the community.

Evelyn Leiva, OPC corporate social responsibility and sustainability head, noted that the recognition for the 10th year reflects the company’s commitment to social impact across areas where it operates. She emphasized that OPC aims to remain a profitable while also contributing to the economic, social, and environmental conditions of surrounding communities.

OPC’s social agenda centers on environmental, social and governance, and finding solutions to address these challenges remain a focus for the company.

Since starting operations in Puerto Cortés, OPC has invested more than USD1.8 million in social programs that have benefitted over 15,000 people. The company’s community initiatives are guided by three key pillars: education, health and the environment. OPC has also invested more than USD1.6 million in employee development, delivering over 230,000 hours of training to more than 4,000 personnel. 

OPC’s volunteer group, Cascos Naranja, now has 100 active volunteers with more than 1,500 accumulated hours of service. 

The company also installed 10,200 square meters of solar panels capable of producing 1.6 MWp of clean energy through an investment of USD1.96 million. Its environmental program aligns with the national and international initiatives, promoting recycling, reuse and waste reduction.
