OMT celebrates World Environment Day with mangrove cleanup
In what has become a tradition in Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT), employees held a cleanup drive along the mangrove area of the port to clear up massive amounts of plastic waste that washed ashore.
Plastic waste is one of the most pressing sources of maritime pollution, known to affect over 700 species of marine life.
Everyone from the HSSE team, stevedores and the managing director pitched in and enjoyed themselves during the activity despite the hot weather.
Apart from collecting plastic bottles and caps, plastic bags, cigarette lighters, and old flip flop components, the cleanup drive also served as an opportunity for everyone to reflect on their responsibility to minimize plastic consumption, recycle and maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings.
