NYK Lines, Toyota business delegation visit BGT

In a significant move to enhance trade relations, a high-level delegation from NYK Lines and Toyota Japan/Iraq recently visited Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) at the Port of Umm Qasr. The visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties, discussing advanced port technologies, and exploring new investment opportunities in Iraq’s rapidly developing logistics sector.
The Japanese delegation, comprising key stakeholders from major shipping companies, port operators, and government officials, was welcomed by senior executives of BGT—a joint venture between the Iraqi Ministry of Transport and International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI).
The visitors observed BGT’s substantial investments in the development of the Port of Umm Qasr and its terminals, noting the company’s commitment to standardized operating procedures and efficiency.
As Iraq continues to expand its port and logistics sectors to accommodate growing trade volumes, the visit underscores the critical role of collaboration with advanced maritime nations like Japan in enhancing port operations, efficiency, and global trade connectivity.
