Manila Multipurpose Terminal (MMT), which operates the largest international breakbulk and bulk cargo facility at the Port of Manila, has acquired five additional 16-ton forklifts from equipment maker Kalmar to enhance operational efficiency and meet increasing demand. The new units arrived in March, with another eight expected in the third quarter.

The investment is part of MMT’s efforts to upgrade terminal operations and enhance customer service. Last year, the company purchased two backhoes equipped with grappler and fork attachments.

“The additional forklifts will strengthen our handling capacity and improve productivity,” said Phillip Marsham, MMT – PH sub-region executive director. “By investing in modern equipment, we aim to reduce turnaround times, enhance safety, and streamline operations.”

MMT operates a 13.2-hectare, 1,035-meter berth multipurpose terminal with an 8-million-metric-ton capacity. An ICTSI Group company, it works alongside the Manila North Harbor Port (NorthPort) and the Manila International Container Terminal to facilitate trade at the Port of Manila, supporting both international and domestic cargo operations and strengthening the country’s logistics network.

Kalmar, part of Finland-based Cargotec Group, supplies cargo-handling solutions to ports, terminals, and distribution centers worldwide. Its equipment and automation technologies help improve efficiency and sustainability in logistics operations.
