The Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) demonstrated its commitment to maritime security, holding a mock port facility security audit last May.

Organized by the Philippine Department of Transportation’s Office for Transportation Security (DoTr-OTS) in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the mock audit was a significant step in validating security protocols at the terminal.

The mock audit focused on the automated access control system, security procedures and access control protocols. It also included interviews and observations of MICT personnel performing security duties at critical locations, including the Pass Control Office and the Main Entrance/Exit of the Terminal Gate.

The activity provided valuable hands-on experience in assessing and improving port security measures. Led by Mourad Ghorbel, IMO safety division – maritime security and facilitation technical officer, the mock audit was attended by several government officials including Reginald B. Rapanan, Transport Security Oversight and Compliance Service director; Eugenio Paguirigan, Transport Security Risk Management Service director; Rodelio B. Jocson, Transport Security Accreditation and Training Management Service director; and Jose V. Carillo, Transport Security Policy and Program Service director.

The MICT team, composed of Menandro Cariaga, Security and Surveillance head; Aris  Palayad, Operations Security manager and designated port facility security officer; Noel Monzon, special projects head, Ismael A. Marohom, management services and government affairs manager; Eammond Brian Fraginal, HSE manager; and Charisma Reyes, MICT PPA acting terminal manager, facilitated the audit.

The comprehensive review and validation of security processes highlighted the terminal's robust measures, providing valuable insights into further strengthening maritime security.
