LatAm terminals bag top honors at 3rd Edify Awards



International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) recently held its third Edify Awards, recognizing outstanding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) achievements across the ICTSI Group. The event held virtually last July 25, honored terminals for their commitment to sustainable practices and their accurate and timely reporting in the 2023 Sustainability Report.

Operadora Portuaria Centroamericana (OPC) secured the prestigious Terminal of the Year Award for Sustainability Reporting. OPC also garnered accolades as the Best Terminal for Sustainability Reporting on material issues such as Environment, Supply Chain, and Financial Reporting.

Other terminals who also received accolades for Sustainability Reporting excellence are Contecon Manzanillo (Customer Engagement and Human Resources), Manila International Container Terminal (Community Relations), Baltic Container Terminal (Data Privacy), and Victoria International Container Terminal (Health & Safety).

The awards further showcased the terminals' outstanding ESG initiatives. Rio Brasil Terminal (RBT) earned recognition for having the Best Environment Initiative for its commitment to clean energy; while Sociedad Puerto Industrial de Aguadulce (SPIA) was honored with the Best Social Initiative for its efforts in promoting diversity and inclusion by providing employment opportunities to Afro-Colombian women. Additionally, Tecon Suape (TSSA) was acknowledged as the Best Governance Initiative for its pioneering risk management campaign, demonstrating a proactive approach to addressing potential challenges.

Meanwhile, winners of the 2nd Edify Awards presented exemplary sustainability practices during the ICTSI Sustainability Summit held last 24 July. Tecon Suape, recognized for its Best Environment Initiative, showcased its commitment to biodiversity conservation. SPICT and MIT, recipients of the Best Social Initiative award, highlighted their innovative approaches to people management. CMSA, honored for its Best Governance Initiative, shared insights into its ethics hotline implementation.

Anders Kjeldsen, ICTSI senior vice president and regional head of the Americas, emphasized the importance of ESG as an ongoing evolution rather than a revolution. He praised the company's continuous improvement and highlighted the critical role ESG plays in maintaining a competitive edge and meeting stakeholder expectations.

The Edify Awards serves as a testament to ICTSI's dedication to fostering sustainability in the industry and celebrates the remarkable achievements of ICTSI terminals in their pursuit of a greener and more responsible future.
