IMO secretary-general visits BGT
Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) at Umm Qasr Port welcomed H.E. Arsenio Dominguez, secretary-general of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), during his recent visit to Iraq. The visit highlighted the operational role of BGT in the country’s maritime sector.
Secretary-General Dominguez toured BGT’s facilities, observing its infrastructure and operations. The visit provided an opportunity to review the terminal’s role in handling international trade and its function within Iraq’s logistics chain.
Following the visit, Dr. Eng. Farhan Mohsen Al-Fartousi, director general of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, issued a letter of appreciation to International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI). The letter acknowledged BGT’s contribution to the successful coordination of the visit and commended the efforts of its staff and management.
BGT continues to work with government and industry stakeholders to support the development of Iraq’s port operations and role in global maritime trade.
