ICTSI South Pacific handles longest ship in PNG

ICTSI South Pacific, in partnership with PNG Ports Corp., received the maiden call of CMA CGM Perth on 25 February at South Pacific International Container Terminal. With a 261-meter length overall, the ANL-operated vessel is the longest container ship to call in Papua New Guinea.

The 4,000-TEU boxship berthed safely at the 240-meter Lae Tidal Basin with a 30-meter despite the 30-meter overhang. The docking was made possible using the mooring dolphin at the stern and newly installed 100-ton bollards at the bow. These infrastructure upgrades were commissioned by PNG Ports in November 2024. A total of 500 containers were loaded using the terminal’s ship-to-shore cranes – the largest port equipment in the country – further demonstrating SPICT’s capability to service larger ships and support PNG’s growing trade.

Prior to the arrival of CMA CGM Perth, the 223-meter Kota Gabung held the record for longest vessel to call PNG
