International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) and Manila North Harbor Port, Inc. (NorthPort) was recognized by the City of Manila as two of the city’s top business taxpayers for fiscal year 2022.
ICTSI was named as the city’s 10th highest business tax contributor and sixth real property taxpayer, while NorthPort was the sixth highest business tax contributor and ninth real property taxpayer.
Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan presented the ICTSI awards to Arnie D. Tablante, vice president and treasurer, and Atty. Benjamin M. Goropse III, global head for tax and concurrent assistant corporate secretary, on June 22 at the Metropolitan Theater. The recognition was part of the celebration for the 450th founding anniversary of the city.
Receiving the award for NorthPort were Rodel N. Binuya, chief finance officer, and Herhona Joy E. Prado, Finance Services manager.
Aside from being in the economic frontlines through the facilitation of maritime trade at the Port of Manila, ICTSI flagship Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) and NorthPort continuously upgrade and refine their operations to enhance efficiency and lessen their carbon footprints. Taxes paid to the city, including concession fees paid to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), spur broad-based and inclusive economic gains for the city and the country’s overall port system.
Since assuming operations of MICT in 1988, ICTSI has remitted over PhP3 billion in taxes to the city, and more than PhP96 billion to the national government through the PPA. The Company has also invested more than PhP40 billion to modernize the MICT and handled over 47 million TEUs throughout the concession.
