ICTSI Batangas achieves 1 million safe man hours

Bauan International Port in Batangas

Bauan International Port Inc, (BIPI), International Container Terminal Services Inc.’s (ICTSI) roll-on, roll-off and project cargo operation at the Port of Bauan in Batangas, has achieved one million safe man hours after only six years.

The milestone was announced during the company’s 25th anniversary celebration last month and reflects BIPI’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its clients, employees and other stakeholders in the delivery of services.  BIPI reached the one million safe man hours without lost time incident six years since the start of the recording in January 2017. Throughout this period, the company managed to overcome various challenges including extreme temperatures, complex cargo configurations and the recent COVID-19 global health crisis.

“Safety is always our number one priority. This achievement underscores our employees’ – from management to ground personnel – diligence and commitment to following the safety protocols here at the terminal. It also reflects the organization’s efforts to provide stakeholders and collaborators with a safe and secure environment,” said Ferdinand Magtalas, BIPI general manager.

Mr. Magtalas explained that the company’s comprehensive safety program is subject to constant improvement:  “There is always room for improvement. We need to keep up with demands by ensuring compliance to industry best practices for safety through regular training and assessment of potential hazards.”

In 2022, BIPI played a key role in the movement of project cargo for the oil and gas industry in the Philippines and neighboring countries and handled pre-pandemic levels of vehicle cargo in the last quarter. ICTSI assumed full ownership of BIPI after purchasing the remaining 20 percent noncontrolling interest of Marubeni Corporation in December.
