A high-level delegation from the European Union (EU) visited Contecon Guayaquil (CGSA) on 28 February to learn about the latest security initiatives implemented at the Port of Guayaquil.

Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs, led the visit together with Annelies Verlinden, Belgian minister of interior, and Charles-Michel Geurts, EU ambassador to Ecuador. The delegation was briefed on security measures implemented by CGSA, including the construction of a new building for the police, acquisition of new surveillance cameras and future installation of port scanners.

The visitors were also given a comprehensive tour of the terminal to witness the anti-narcotics checks performed by police on export cargo prior to loading them into vessels.
