Contecon Race for a Cause draws record attendance

The seventh edition of Contecon Race for a Cause took place last 10 November, bringing together 2,300 participants – the highest since the event’s inception – at the 5 de Mayo Sports Unit in Manzanillo, Colima.

Organized by Contecon Manzanillo S.A. (CMSA), the annual event fostered a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie, competition and community support, all aimed at strengthening education by raising funds. Since its inception, the fundraiser has committed 100 percent of registration fees to benefit primary education institutions in Manzanillo and provide financial support to students. This year was no exception, as funds were directed toward improving infrastructure and supporting the youth in their academic journey.

“We are proud to see how the Race for a Cause has become a symbol of unity and support for education in Manzanillo. For the seventh edition, we reaffirm our commitment to the well-being of the community. Thanks to the sponsors and all the runners, we achieved this year’s goals,” said José Antonio Contreras, CMSA chief executive officer.

This year’s race introduced a special incentive for sponsors, who were allowed to compete in an exclusive category designed to recognize their essential contribution. This unique initiative helped encourage teamwork and strengthen bonds within and among participating organizations.

The event also offered a total of MXN316,000 in prizes across various categories, attracting runners from several states and boosting tourism in Manzanillo over the weekend.

“The Race for a Cause is more than just a sporting event – it’s a celebration of family, community and health. It promotes physical activity for all ages, while creating a space for connection and enjoyment. This is our way of giving back to society and continuing to build a better future for everyone,” said Francisco Santana, CMSA Environmental, Industrial, Physical Safety and Corporate Social Responsibility manager.
