Contecon Manzanillo strengthens commitment to education with 8th Race with a Cause

Contecon Manzanillo (CMSA) successfully held the eighth edition of the Carrera con Causa (Race with a Cause) Contecon, an annual event that benefits education, sports and tourism in Manzanillo. This year’s edition brought together more than 4,000 runners and a large audience that gathered early at the FONDEPORT Industrial Park.

The race featured several categories—3K, 5.5K and 10K, as well as children’s races and a family walk—designed to include people of all ages and fitness levels. With a prize pool of MXN 316,000, the event attracted participants from different states across the country, boosting sports tourism in the region.

Among the highlights of this year’s race was the special course inside the terminal, making it the first race in Mexico to allow participants to enter an operational maritime terminal. Runners experienced the unique opportunity of running beneath the largest quay cranes in the Americas.

Since its inception, the Carrera con Causa has dedicated 100 percent of the funds raised to projects that strengthen basic education and provide financial support to students in Manzanillo. The goal remains at the heart of the event: to contribute to the educational development of children and youth in Colima.

“Thank you all for making this edition an unforgettable experience,” said José Antonio Contreras, CMSA chief executive officer.

He adds:  “Each edition of the race is an opportunity to come together as a community in support of educational development. The image of thousands of runners beneath the terminal’s cranes symbolizes what we want to convey—that with effort and unity, we can accomplish big goals.”

Beyond sports, the event also generated direct benefits for the local economy and tourism thanks to collaboration with the Colima state government, the Ministry of Tourism and the business sector. The joint effort helped increase visitor turnout and once again positioned Manzanillo as a leading destination for sports tourism in the country.

“This event is much more than a race. It is a platform that promotes education, encourages tourism and strengthens social ties. The energy of the participants shows us that when we work for a good cause, the impact multiplies,” said Francisco Santana, operations director of the annual charity race.

Thanks to the joint efforts of the organizers, sponsors and participants, the Carrera con Causa Contecon continues to set a benchmark for social responsibility and solidarity in Mexico.
