CMSA champions sustainable maritime transport
Contecon Manzanillo (CMSA) took an important step in its commitment to the environment and the fight against climate change by joining the Champions of Maritime Transport and Sustainable Ports initiative.
Promoted by the Institute of the Americas, the Mexican Chamber of the Maritime Transport Industry and World Wide Fund for Nature Mexico, the project highlights and supports companies that reduce emissions and move towards more sustainable maritime and port transport.
For CMSA, the collaboration represents a commitment to sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It is an opportunity to lead the transition to a cleaner maritime industry and strengthen the company’s role as a leader in the fight against climate change in the port sector.
One of the projects that supports CMSA’s participation in the initiative is the ISO 14064 Carbon Neutral Certification, which recognizes CMSA as the only participating container terminal. Other related initiatives by the company include support for the conservation of the Cuyutlán Lagoon and the use of hybrid rubber-tired gantries, which reduce diesel consumption by up to 50 percent.
Additionally, CMSA implemented other measures like use of LED lighting, inverter air conditioning, catalytic converters to optimize diesel consumption, electric and hybrid equipment, and conduction of programs to promote sustainable practices among employees.
