Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA) recently laid the first stone for the foundation of the future facilities of the National Police. The barracks, which will be located inside the terminal, will be the largest facility of its kind in Ecuador.

The construction of the police barracks marks an important milestone in the collaboration between the private sector and government authorities and is part of the agreement signed by Contecon Guayaquil and the Ministry of Government in early 2022. The USD3.5 million facility will strengthen the surveillance and anti-narcotics functions of the National Police inside the Simón Bolívar Libertador Port.

“Security is a fundamental pillar in our operations. Thanks to our infrastructure and technology, we are recognized as the most secure port terminals in Ecuador. At Contecon, we ratify our commitment to the security and sustainability of foreign trade, becoming the strategic ally of the state so that Ecuador can go further,” said Javier Lancha de Micheo, CGSA CEO.

With construction commencing in November, the barracks will accommodate 74 personnel within a 1,485-square-meter area. CGSA also delivered equipment and other assets to improve land mobility, communication and counternarcotics inspections.

The installation of high-tech scanners was done in accordance with Ecuadorian requirements and regulations. CGSA has invested around USD15 million for the acquisition of the equipment and the adaptation of civil works.

As a strategic partner of the Ecuadorian State, CGSA promotes security innovation to provide world-class port service.
