CMSA deliver school improvements with race proceeds

Contecon Manzanillo (CMSA), a leader in port operations in Mexico, has delivered much-needed infrastructure improvements to 10 schools using the proceeds of the 6th Race with a Cause.

Held last November, the fundraising event had the participation of more than 2,100 runners and support of 41 sponsors. The goal of the race is to support the education of children through the construction, remodeling and maintenance of school facilities to provide children with an environment that’s suitable for their learning and academic development. CMSA expects the school improvements to have a positive impact, leading to better learning conditions, academic performance and student well-being.

The turnover ceremony was led by José Antonio Contreras, CMSA chief executive officer; Francisco Santana, CMSA SSE & CSR; Juan Carlos Salas, CMSA director of human resources; and Sandra Alcaráz, CMSA social responsibility leader, at the Jaime Torres Elementary School – one of the beneficiaries of the 1.6-million-peso race proceeds. The school’s new cafeteria is expected to benefit staff and more than 3,100 students.

According to Contreras, the efforts made within the company are unequivocal proof that great results can be achieved with the support of the community.

“These projects aim to provide students with an optimal space for their education development and well-being, thus strengthening the entire community. By providing the tools and environment necessary for children to learn and grow, we are building a future more equitable and prosperous for everyone,” said Contreras.

“I thank all those involved in this project – the residents who participated in the race, the sponsors and the entire Contecon team. Their commitment has been fundamental to the success of this initiative,” he added.

The turnover ceremony was also attended by local and state authorities including Adolfo Núñez, Secretary of Education and Culture of the Government of the State of Colima, and representatives of sponsors CIMA Group, Woodward Logistics, Tap Terminal and Indi Group.

“We are convinced that education is the way to turn dreams into reality, and this is the opportunity to do so. I want to reiterate that at CIMA, you will always have an ally, especially in this type of actions,” said César Romero, CIMA Group chief executive officer.

Organizing the annual Race for a Cause and other similar activities not only reaffirm CMSA’s commitment to the educational system, but also invite the community to value and support education as a fundamental pillar for the development.
