In a move to enhance security at the Port of Guayaquil, Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA) signed a letter of intent together with the Ecuadorian Navy and Port Authority (APG) for the delivery on loan of a land area for the Maritime Operation Group (GOMAR).

GOMAR will be a joint task force comprising personnel from CGSA, the Navy and APG. With logistical and maritime support from all three institutions, GOMAR’s primary goal is to counter threats posed by transnational criminal organizations operating at sea. The task force will provide a security platform for the port’s access channel, safeguarding incoming vessels and deterring illegal activities.

CGSA will designate a strategic area within the port facilities, complete with all the necessary amenities, to house more than 40 GOMAR personnel. The turnover of this area marks an important milestone for the combined efforts of the private sector, the national government and port authorities to improve response capabilities to threats posed by criminal organizations in Guayaquil’s maritime and river channels.
