In an event highlighting the collaboration between the public and private sectors in Ecuador, Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA), along with the Ecuadorian Navy and the Guayaquil Port Authority, formalized a bailment agreement for land within the Puerto Libertador Simón Bolívar. The land will serve as the site for the Maritime Operational Group (GOPMAR) building. This joint initiative aims to enhance security along the waterways of Gulf of Guayaquil for all vessels arriving at Contecon Guayaquil.
The GOPMAR project will unite river, maritime and logistics support units from all participating institutions to provide coordinated response to transnational criminal organizations operating along maritime routes. The operational platform will secure the access channel and protect the vessels entering the port, while also combating related illicit activities.
Located inside Contecon Guayaquil, the 5,732-square meter area will house approximately 40 military and police personnel, strengthening Ecuador’s capabilities for patrol and interdiction in the Gulf of Guayaquil. To be equipped with essential services, the new facility underscores CGSA’s commitment to security and interagency cooperation.
The allocation of this land marks a significant step forward in the collaboration between the private sector and maritime and port authorities. It is a vital move toward enhancing maritime control and countering illicit activities, ensuring a unified and effective response to protect Ecuador’s waterways.
