Contecon Guayaquil (CGSA) recently inaugurated the first phase of the civil works for the implementation of its scanner project, which aims to further enhance the security of cargo and personnel in the terminal.

Javier Lancha de Micheo, CGSA Chief Executive Officer, led the inauguration together with Ecuadorian Vice President Alfredo Borrero and a delegation from the government and the National Customs Service.

The implementation of scanners at the terminal is part of the strategic initiatives to promote Ecuador’s foreign trade. Once the project is complete, CGSA will be the first port in the country to operate the equipment. The first phase involves the segregation of the operations and administrative area.

“This project ratifies our commitment to the competitiveness and security of Ecuador’s foreign trade,” said Mr. Lancha de Micheo.

Other milestones were also announced during the ceremony, including the start of the construction of the police building that will house a monitoring center as part of the 2022 agreement between CGSA and the National Police; completion of the installation of LTE antennas for high-speed data transmission at the port – the fastest and most advanced in the country; and the creation of a foundation for the mangrove observatory to carry out academic and scientific studies.
