Basra Gateway Terminal receives largest Yang Ming ship to dock in Iraq

YM Utility has a length overall of 330 meters and a capacity of 9,000 TEUs.

Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) operation at the Port of Umm Qasr, recently handled the maiden call of YM Utility, the largest Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation vessel to dock in Iraq.

The vessel’s arrival mirrors the Port of Umm Qasr’s increasing importance in global trade. It also highlights ICTSI’s investment in port equipment and facilities, which allows for the handling of such massive vessels.

Equipped with three post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes, which are considered to be the largest and most modern port equipment in Iraq, BGT is more than capable of handling up to 14,000-TEU vessels. These cranes enable the terminal to perform more efficient cargo operations and achieve higher productivity, which in turn allow shipping lines to reduce operational costs.

BGT’s investments in infrastructure, equipment and technology, reaffirm the company’s commitment to setting the standard of port operation in Iraq and providing customers with the highest level of service.
