AGCT surpasses 400,000 TEU mark
Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) capped off 2024 with a milestone, surpassing the 400,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) mark and setting the record for the highest volume handled by the terminal in a year.
The record volume highlights the importance of AGCT as one of the central container transshipment hubs in the Adriatic, as well as Rijeka’s role as a key entry point for containerized cargo in Southeast and Central Europe.
“This is the result of the hard work and dedication of all our employees. After a challenging start to the year due to the Red Sea crisis, we have shown resilience through rapid recovery and even growth with stabilization of services,” explained Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT chief executive officer.
“Given that most of the cargo originates from outside Croatia, this achievement reaffirms the importance of rail transport as the sole means for the further growth of the Port of Rijeka and the entire transport route.
“We sincerely thank our valued partners who entrusted us with their cargo. We are committed to maintaining the high standards that have enabled the Rijeka Container Terminal to grow and maintain its role in the global supply chain,” he added.
