Iñigo Nuñez Mendibe, Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) chief executive officer, underscored the Port of Rijeka’s current capacity and connectivity during the Transport & Logistics 2026 conference held on April 16-17 in Opatija and Rijeka.

Speaking at the event, which gathered more than 100 experts from 12 countries, Mendibe pointed to the port’s operational readiness and role as a gateway to Central European markets.

“Currently, Rijeka as a port is in a strong position with open capacity both at a container terminal level and from a rail infrastructure and service offering level. This translates into an efficient and reliable corridor to the respective markets that it serves.

These facts, combined with the recent investments to enhance operational capability and ability to serve some of the largest container vessels in the world, sends a positive message to the market right now, given the operational constraints in other Adriatic ports and some North European ports.”

Mendibe noted the importance of completing the lowland railway and accelerating administrative and environmental procedures to support further development.

AGCT’s chief executive also participated in discussions on logistics digitalization, supply chain resilience and the continued development of Rijeka as a logistics hub.
