Representatives from Adriatic Gate Container Terminal turned over two Infusomat® Space volumetric infusion pumps to the Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases and the Department of Interventional Cardiology at the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka on April 14.

The medical equipment is used for the treatment of patients with heart conditions to ensure the continuous and timely delivery of the necessary drugs, blood products and transfusions.

Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT chief executive officer, noted that cardiovascular diseases, which cause heart attack and stroke, are among the main causes of death in Croatia.  Dietary risks, tobacco and alcohol consumption, as well as minimal physical activity, are key risk factors responsible for more than half of all deaths in the country – with Croatia exceeding the European Union average.

“We are trying to raise awareness by addressing these risk factors with our employees, and at the same time, providing support through benefits like health insurance and regular fitness activities. On behalf of AGCT, I would like to thank the dedicated medical staff in Rijeka who provide treatment and better chances of recovery to those who are suffering from heart conditions,” said Mr. Papagiannakis.

Dr. Vjekoslav Tomulić, MD, Department of Interventional Cardiologoy head, thanked AGCT for donating infusion pumps to the department:  “We would like to thank AGCT for the medical equipment.  The most complex endovascular procedures on the heart and blood vessels are performed in the cardiac care units of our institute.  Patients who suffer from life-threatening conditions like heart attack or stroke, aortic rupture and heart failure need to be given more medications and infusions within strictly defined doses and this machine enables faster care and better management of these patients.”

“Our institution is a center of excellence for minimally invasive treatment of valvular heart disease and congenital heart defects in children.  These are procedures in which the patient is sedated, and requires intensive monitoring and treatment, which will be greatly facilitated with this equipment. Thank you again on behalf of our patients,” added Dr. Tomulić.

AGCT embraces the opportunity to support the local medical community in caring for cardiovascular patients.  The Company will continue to raise awareness on risk factors that lead to heart diseases by promoting lifestyle changes and better self-care through regular exercise, healthier diet, reduced alcohol consumption and non-smoking.
