AGCT donates medical equipment to KBC Rijeka

AGCT representatives turn over the ECG equipment and other medical supplies to Dr. Alen Ružić (fourth from left) and Dr. Ingrid Belac Lovasić (fifth from left) of KBC Rijeka.

Adriatic Gateway Container Terminal recently donated a new electrocardiogram machine to the Clinical Hospital Center of Rijeka (Klinički Bolnički Centar Rijeka or KBC Rijeka). The equipment will be used by the Radiotherapy and Oncology Clinic to monitor patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy can increase the risk of heart problems for cancer patients, which makes heart monitoring a crucial aspect of the entire treatment process.

“I take this opportunity to thank AGCT, which, with this valuable donation of ECG device to the Clinic of Radiotherapy and Oncology, expresses their commitment to their social responsibility.  This donation will improve treatment conditions and help our work, particularly with vulnerable groups of patients,” said Prof. Dr. Sc. Alen Ružić, KBC Rijeka director.

“Modern oncology is increasingly associated with the early detection of cardiovascular reactions to chemotherapy, which gives this donation an extra dimension and provides greater safety for our patients,” he added.

Prof. Dr. Sc. Ingrid Belac Lovasić, KBC Rijeka Radiotherapy and Oncology Clinic head, also thanked AGCT for the donation:  “I would like to thank AGCT for this valuable donation to the Clinic of Radiotherapy and Oncology.  The donated ECG device will greatly help us work with our cancer patients and improve treatment conditions. This donation shows the awareness and social sensitivity of our society, as well as the desire to improve the conditions and outcomes of treatment for cancer patients.”

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT Chief Executive Officer, noted that Croatia is unfortunately among the top 10 countries with the highest cancer mortality rate for curable cancers.  Knowing that more Croatians can survive and beat cancer through early diagnosis, Mr. Papagiannakis spearheaded an internal awareness campaign that includes a series of activities that highlight the importance of regular checkups and early detection.

AGCT embraces the opportunity to support the local community in the fight against cancer and draw attention to the importance of timely diagnosis. The Company encourages regular medical checkups to help detect cancer in its early stages and increase the chance of survival.

AGCT also thanks the dedicated medical staff in Rijeka for doing their best to provide treatments and positive results to cancer patients under their care.
