AGCT adds electric terminal tractors to landside fleet

Adriatic Gate Container Terminal took delivery of its first fully electric terminal tractors on April 13, marking an important step toward more sustainable operations. AGCT’s two new BYD terminal tractors are not only the first within the ICTSI Group; they are also the first electric tractors introduced by the Chinese automaker in Europe.

The milestone comes after a period of close cooperation with BYD, during which AGCT tested one of the automaker’s newly developed units. As one of the first terminals in Europe to test BYD’s electric tractors, AGCT provided direct operational feedback, which was then used to further adapt and customize the equipment for real terminal conditions.

The introduction of electric tractors fits naturally into AGCT’s broader approach to sustainability, following the acquisition of hybrid rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes last December and the ongoing conversion of the terminal’s existing RTG fleet from diesel to hybrids.
