AFP commends SBITC for Balikatan support

The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Northern Luzon Command recently recognized Subic Bay International Terminals (SBITC) for cooperating and providing invaluable support during the recently concluded 36th PH-US Balikatan Exercises.

Balikatan is Filipino for “shoulder to shoulder,” which characterizes the spirit of the military exercise and partnership between the two countries.  The Philippines and United States of America have been conducting Balikatan exercises yearly since 1991.

Through the years, SBITC has been assisting and supporting these exercises by helping transport and military equipment, including tanks and helicopters. The terminal has also welcomed aircraft carriers and other military ships.

This year’s exercises pushed through despite the pandemic, which meant more stringent health, safety, and security protocols needed to be implemented. Aside from the security checks and inspections, SBITC carried out IATF health protocols during arrival and departure of US Military and civilian participants in and from Subic, Zambales.

The 2021 Balikatan Exercises were held from 12 to 23 April.

SBITC receives a plaque of recognition from the Armed Forces of the Philippines signed by Lt. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo B. Burgos, AFP NOLCOM Commander, on behalf of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and civilians who worked together during the bilateral military exercises
